Teen Institute is a peer leadership program for youth in grades 10-12 who are committed to changing the attitudes towards, and pattern consumption of, alcohol and other drugs among their peers. Reality Check (Youth Action Project) is a youth movement, developed by the NYS Department of Health Tobacco Control Program in 2000. They are committed to exposing the manipulative and deceptive marketing practices of the tobacco industry. The SQUAD – Students Questioning Underage Drinking was formed in the fall of 2005. The participants involved are young people committed to challenging the culture of underage drinking. Project ALERT is a science-based model prevention program that uses participatory activities and videos with guided classroom discussion to stimulate peer interaction and challenge students beliefs and perceptions. The program is offered over two consecutive years and is geared towards students in grades 6 and 7, or grades 7 and 8. Great Kids are Great Role Models is a five week drug and alcohol prevention and education program offered during the summer at city and county parks and recreation locations. Eckerd Drug Quiz Show is a program for youth in 5th through 8th grade. Students participate in a Jeopardy-style quiz show, and have the chance to advance with their team to the state playoffs. Educational Presentations feature Classroom oriented presentations on a variety of issues related to alcohol and other drugs. The presentations are designed for a wide range of audiences, school-age to adult. |
